Our mission is to provide a high quality academic program and character education to students, grades 8 – 12, in order to enable them to fully achieve their personal potential, be productive citizens, and succeed in life.
The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) is a Type 2 charter school located in Algiers on the west bank of New Orleans, situated between the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters and the New Orleans Police Department 4th District headquarters.
Type 2 charter schools are authorized by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and can enroll students from any parish throughout the state. The only requirements for entrance are promotion to appropriate grade level and mandatory participation in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) program.
NOMMA is unique as a public school that has 100% student body participation in JROTC. Our diverse and talented cadet corps is taught by retired Marine Instructors and Civilian Teachers, who offer caring mentorship to enable our cadets to achieve their academic and personal potential.
NOMMA provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, as well as career and technical education, to prepare students for future success and to accept the responsibilities of citizenship.
The New Orleans Military/Maritime Academy (NOMMA) is a Type 2 charter high school serving students in the New Orleans Metropolitan area. NOMMA is dedicated to the education of high school students, no matter their background or previous school experience. Students at NOMMA study in a focused, college preparatory environment guided by a team of teachers and retired military instructors who bring unparalleled experience to the classroom.

In accordance with Federal and State law, schools are mandated as a “fire-arm free zone”. The definition of “school” extends to the physical school campus, school bus and school-sponsored functions. The amendment of Louisiana’s law removing the requirement to hold a concealed carry permit and lowering the age does not change the status of school being a “fire-arm free zone”. Firearms are still prohibited on school grounds as well as specific extensions of the school environment.
